FORMER CORPUS CHRISTI DEPUTY CITY MANAGER JESUS GARZA STEPS DOWN AT SETON HEALTHCARE

Jesus Garza, the former Corpus Christi deputy city manager who went on to run the City of Austin and the Lower Colorado River Authority is stepping down as the President and Chief Executive Officer of the Seton Healthcare Family, and Senior Vice President of Ascension’s Texas Ministry

Garza announced last week that he will leave on August 21. Garza had a brief run as deputy general manager of the Lower Colorado River Authority and an 8-year term as city manager for the City of Austin. He became CEO of Seton Healthcare Family on July 1, 2013 but first joined the Seton Family of Hospitals in 2002.

“Jesús has served Ascension and Seton Healthcare Family for 15 years with compassion, generosity, unmatched professionalism and skill,” said Patricia A. Maryland, President, Healthcare Operations and Chief Operating Officer, Ascension Healthcare, a division of Ascension

In February 2016, Garza was named by the Federal Reserve Board of Governors to the Bank’s San Antonio Branch Board of Directors. He is serving a three-year term that runs to the end of 2018. He also serves on the American Hospital Association Governing Council, the LBJ School of Public Affairs Advisory Council and the Catholic Foundation–Diocese of Austin Board of Directors. He previously served on the boards of the Greater Austin Chamber of Commerce, Headliners Club, American Heart Association–Austin, United Way of Greater Austin and Capital Idea.

Garza was sometimes controversial but was considered a leader who helped Austin during a period of economic and population expansion that included downtown revitalization and the opening of the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport. That helped get him named Public Administrator of the Year by the American Society for Public Administration/Centex Chapter and Public Official of the Year by Governing magazine. He received a Bachelor of Science degree from The University of Texas and a Master of Public Affairs degree from the Lyndon Baines Johnson School of Public Affairs
