Former City Councilman Mark Scott’s Resignation Called into Question

200243_181711725208617_782606_nFormer at large councilman Mark Scott resigned last week in order to run for mayor in 2018 but some council members are accusing him of gaming the system.

The city council voted unanimously to hire an outside lawyer to look into whether or not resigning before his term to run for mayor was ethical.

City councilwomen Carolyn Vaughn called the move an ethics violation. “I think he violated his oath of office. I think he snubbed his nose at the highest law of the council, which is the city charter, and I think it’s an ethics violation,” Vaughn said during the meeting.
